About Growing Specialty Crops. Sharing Knowledge. Strengthening Communities.
Friendly Farmers LA is a specialty crop farm, nursery, and educational demonstration operation dedicated to producing high-quality specialty crops while advancing sustainable agriculture throughout Louisiana and the Gulf South.
Founded by a Southwestern Louisiana native with deep family roots in agriculture, Friendly Farmers LA was established to preserve agricultural traditions while embracing modern, science-based farming practices. The operation combines responsible land stewardship, specialty crop production, and agricultural education to strengthen local food systems and increase access to fresh, locally grown products.
Our primary focus is the production of specialty fig varieties, including Texas Everbearing, Texas Blue Giant, and Celeste, while continuously evaluating additional specialty crops suited to the Gulf Coast region. Through sustainable soil management, water conservation, integrated pest management, and responsible resource use, we strive to build a resilient farming operation that benefits both the environment and the communities we serve.
Education is a core component of our mission. Friendly Farmers LA documents its farming practices through the Orchard Journal, digital educational resources, and future demonstration gardens to help homeowners, beginning farmers, and small producers successfully grow their own food. By sharing practical knowledge and encouraging lifelong learning, we hope to inspire more families to participate in local agriculture.
The farm is also committed to supporting regional agricultural partnerships through collaboration with producer cooperatives, extension services, conservation programs, and community organizations. These partnerships strengthen specialty crop production, improve market access for local growers, and encourage the adoption of sustainable farming practices.
As Friendly Farmers LA grows, our long-term vision is to develop a financially sustainable operation that serves as a regional resource for specialty crop production, agricultural education, and community engagement. By combining responsible farming, innovation, and collaboration, we seek to improve food security, support local economies, and contribute to a healthier, more resilient food system for future generations.
